The word "Addo" is Latin and means to "give; bring; place; inspire". Addo Records was a Canadian music label dedicated to partnerships with talented composers and performers of progressive, improvisational music in the jazz tradition.
In October of 2009, Steve Bellamy launched Addo Records with the hope of creating a catalogue of excellent music that would inspire listeners and fellow musicians, and highlight leading Canadian talent. The label launched with albums by Kirk MacDonald, Ted Quinlan, and Fieldtrip. Since then, more than 30 albums were produced in a catalogue featuring Mike Downes, John Stetch, Kirk MacDonald, Ted Quinlan, Brian Dickinson, Chet Doxas, Jim Doxas, Nancy Walker, Kevin Dean, Jim Doxas, Shirantha Beddage, Tara Davidson, Jerry Granelli, Ted Warren, Rich Brown, Paul Read, and Mikko Hildén.
Unfortunately Addo Records had to close its doors in October 2018. All ownership of master recordings was reverted back to each individual artist and Addo maintains no ownership in those recordings. Label founder Steve Bellamy says, "I'm grateful to the artists and many collaborators who contributed to these beautiful and timeless albums of great music, and appreciative of the good friends made along the way."
