Technology in Music Performance and Music Education
How does technology affect musical performance and music education? I am particularly interested in evaluating the use of networks for musical performance and communication, and the productive application of technology to music pedagogy.
Multichannel Sound and Virtual Environments
The Bellamy Baffle Technique is a multichannel microphone technique for recording acoustic music which makes use of an acoustic baffle between the front and rear microphone arrays. The baffle enhances the sense of envelopment and realism for the listener, and provides the recording engineer with greater flexibility to modify the microphone placement to suit the specific music application.
Music and Auditory Cognition
Auditory perception and the evaluation of music and audio recordings through listening tests is an area of research interest for me. I am especially interested in the virtual reproduction of real acoustic spaces and the emotional response triggered by acoustic envelopment and surround audio.
